The Western Tuna and Billfish Fishery is fished and managed similar to the Eastern Tuna and Billfish fishery however notable exceptions are
- The Western Tuna and Billfish Fishery covers the sea area west from the tip of Cape York in Queensland, around Western Australia, to the border between Victoria and South Australia. Fishing occurs in both the Australian Fishing Zone and adjacent high seas.
- The fishery is managed internationally by the Indian Ocean Tuna Commission and
- The fish target species are exactly the same except albacore tuna is not a quota species
