  • Tuna fishers are monitored by a vessel monitoring system, electronic monitoring, electronic logbooks and catch returns, desktop audits and inspection activity.

Sustainable

  • Our members pursue sustainable bait fishing options, such as using MSC certified baits and live baits from sustainable local state fisheries.

  • The Eastern Tuna and Billfish Fishery is Marine Stewardship Council certified for albacore tuna, yellowfin tuna, bigeye tuna and swordfish.

  • Tuna Australia members minimise their environmental footprint, using mitigation devices and strategies to protect seabirds, turtles, toothed whales and sharks from capture.

Albacore tuna

  • Available as frozen (containerised) or fresh produce.
  • Available year round
  • Product size and quality is predictable. Fish caught in northern parts of the fishery are plentiful at 10 – 12kg weight. Southern parts of the fishery provide much larger fish to 25kg at various times of the year.
  • Albacore is an economical and versatile tuna with excellent firm flesh and delicate flavour profile
  • Catch can be processed to customer specifications.
